Goaltending helps Cottonmouths take 1-0 series lead
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Mavric Parks' fantastic performance in goal allowed the Cottonmouths to top the number one seeded Macon Mayhem in the first game of the SPHL Playoffs Tuesday night.
Parks had 52 saves and pitched a shutout en route to the victory.
"I was just glad that we won," Parks said. "All the guys pulled their weight tonight, blocking shots, letting me see shots was huge. It was a full 60-minute effort."
"Goaltending can win you hockey games and Mavric Parks was the star of the game, obviously," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "He made some unbelievable saves and he kept us in the game when we needed to."
Columbus only needed one goal thanks to the great performance by Parks. In the second period, Alex Kromm scored the lone goal with an assist from Nick Owen and David Watt just 21 seconds into the start of the period.
This win gives the Cottonmouths the 1-0 lead over Macon in the best-of-three series. It's their fourth straight win over the Mayhem dating back to the regular season.
Game two begins at 7:30 p.m. EST. on Wednesday.
