'Pets 4 Our Vets' spreads service dog awarness

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - 'Pets 4 Our Vets' was held Saturday morning at Old Town in Columbus.

The event's goal was to spread the message that they can assist you if you need help with your pets.

Pets should be treated with respect and this is how working dogs for vets was started.

This is not only for veterans but also anyone in the community.

There was free food, doggie costume contests, and vendors with helpful information for everyone.

Miss Presidential Pathways Outstanding Teen 2017, Lindsey Rice, says, "I really want to get the word out especially to the veterans, if you are struggling if you need assistance please call working dogs for vets. They can help you so much they have helped so many people who already service dogs."

This was the first event for working dogs for vets and organizers to have more in the future.

All donations were given to support Working Dogs For Vets, a non-profit organization that gives disabled veterans service dogs.
