Fort Benning welcomes new Garrison Commander

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) – On Wednesday, Fort Benning welcomed a new Army Garrison Commander at a change of command ceremony.

Colonel Clinton Cox became the new commander.

Cox is an army veteran with six combat tours under his belt and has a Master's degree in National Security from the National Defense University.

As an infantry officer Colonel Cox was educated at Ranger School among other courses.

Cox replaces Colonel Andrew Hilmes who will be deploying to Afghanistan.

"It's so much better when you like the person you're transitioning with. You are the right person and you an Alison are the right team to come lead this garrison, the right personality. The Garrison staff has already attached themselves to you," said Colonel Clinton Cox.

Both the wives of Hilmes and Cox received flowers to signify their transitions into the Garrison and transition out.

Among many people in attendance was Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson.
