AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The New Year is a day away and celebrations will soon begin across the country.
Once the parties end and the fireworks are over, people will begin working on their New Year's Resolutions.
According to Vince Diletto, the Head Coach at Orange Theory Fitness in Auburn, by February, 80 percent of people will have failed at completing their resolutions.
"We always see in the fitness industry, January and February are going to be strong months." Said Diletto, "Everybody has a whole new year's resolution that they are going to be a new person just because the calendar year changed."
According to the Huffington post, losing weight tops the list of most common resolutions, followed by getting organizers and learning to say no.
Diletto believes people fail to complete resolutions because they do not set smart goals.
"You have to change one thing, then another and another."
Setting smart goals includes being specific with your goal, then making a plan.
"Saying you are going to drink more water is great," says Diletto, but there is a better way to plan for this, "A smarter goal is 'I'm going to drink 96 ounces of water per day"
Once you have set a smart goal, Diletto says to invest in your goal. You should also find a way to hold yourself accountable.
The Orange Theory Fitness team has seen many people begin strong in January then drift away during the year. Today, however, one member is celebrating accomplishing her goal and is getting married.
"In January she's going through her whole fitness regimen, nothing is happening nothing is changing. In March she finally joined here at Orange Theory Fitness. She was wedding dress shopping early in the year, size 12. Today she is getting married in a size six. We are obviously very excited for her, she changed her life."
