CPD: Mother killed, daughter wounded in New Year's Day shooting
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Police are now searching for a suspect wanted in a deadly shooting early New Year's Day on the corner of Colorado Street and Rigdon Road.
Columbus Police Department's Homicide Unit confirmed Nancy Johnson, 63, died as a result of a gunshot wound. Johnson's daughter, Gloria, was treated for her injuries and released from Midtown Medical Center.
The call came into Columbus dispatch around 12:30 Monday morning. First responders arrived at 2940 Colorado Street, where they found the mother and daughter suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS crews drove both victims to the emergency room at Midtown Medical.
Investigators said the suspect left the area on foot. Witnesses described the suspect as a black man, approximately 55-65 years of age, 5'6" tall, weighing around 160-180 lbs. Witnesses also told CPD the suspect was wearing a black leather jacket, a black shirt and khaki pants.
