Portion of Veterans Parkway closed following 2-car accident

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A portion of Veterans Parkway in Columbus is closed following a two-car accident.

The accident happened in the 6000 block of Veterans Parkway in front of the Shrimp Basket restaurant.

One car struck a utility pole which caused the pole to snap in half. Power lines are down and have covered roadways.

Emergency crews and Georgia Power are on the scene. The accident has caused power outages to several businesses in the area.

The southbound lanes near Carmax remain closed and power crews work to restore power to businesses.

According to police, two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
