COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Residents on Trussell Avenue are shocked and upset to hear that one of their neighbors is a victim of a homicide.

Many of them saying that a once-quiet street becoming loud with sirens and a heavy police presence on Tuesday afternoon is saddening.

The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Nancy Green and 88-year-old James Byrd was arrested and charged with murder.

This is the third homicide of 2018 and police are still investigating what led to the shooting.

One neighbor says they saw and heard everything, saying that they heard a gunshot and saw police arrive to tell the suspect to put his gun down before being arrested and taken into custody.

Other neighbors say that didn't know the residents very well. There were fire officials, investigators and patrol units on the scene to investigate what exactly took place.

The case is still under investigation.
