COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Studies show the Influenza virus is especially bad this year and we are seeing a high death toll because of it.

Some people are afraid of getting the flu shot because of the perceived notion of developing the virus from the shot, a Columbus doctor says there are natural ways you can cope with the virus.

"Raw honey itself can be what we call an antimicrobial where it has anti-microbial actions which means it can be antiviral and anti-bacterial. So adding raw honey into teas and even taking it by the teaspoon full can be really good for colds and flu," Dr. Elizabeth Cantrell said with Elements Natural Medicine.

She also says ramping up your vitamin C intake is a big factor and not just through a supplement. Broccoli or even sweet bell peppers have high concentrations of Vitamin C.

Dr. Cantrell also says Vitamin C helps activate your humane cells to fight a nasty strain like this.

If you're experiencing symptoms of the flu still check with your doctor.
