COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus City Councilor Skip Henderson has announced his resignation on Monday.
He's resigning his council seat in order to run for mayor.
Henderson will step down Feb. 14 from the at-large council seat he's held for 21 years.
The 58-year old says the timing of his departure was important, so the city could hold a special election to choose his successor.
Henderson is one of five individuals who've expressed a desire to become mayor.
Qualifying begins March 5 with the election set for May 22.
