BBB warns of scams related to government shutdown

(WTVM) - The government shutdown is expected to end soon. However, scammers are still trying to use it as a ploy.

The Better Business Bureau is warning everyone of scam calls related to the government shutdown.

Whenever there is a large federal event, the BBB says the number of scams usually become higher. With Fort Benning in the Chattahoochee Valley, it's best to be aware that people could be trying to scam you.

"They would ask if you've received your government grant. A  government grant is real hard to come by and the only thing you will get a government grant for is improving the community.  No one is going to give you a grant for you just being you," says Jason Blankenship, director of Business Services for the BBB.
