(WTVM) - The need for blood in East Alabama and West Georgia continues to reach a critical level.
Lifesouth Community Blood Center says the local blood supply has taken a big hit because of the holidays and winter weather forcing it to cancel donation drives.
The center says blood donors are especially needed now so area hospitals have a safe supply to treat patients.
Lifesouth says one donation can save up to three lives.
The center is hosting a donation drive on Wednesday at Auburn University from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the City of Opelika will have representatives from Lifesouth behind the City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
