COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics are just a couple of weeks away in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the Army is proud to say that one of their own will be competing.

Sergeant Matt Mortensen is a member of the World Class Athlete Program based out of Fort Carson, CO and is also part of the United States Luge Team.

"It takes strength. It takes courage. It takes discipline," said Sgt. Mortensen. "Because when you fail, you're not only letting yourself down, you're letting down the people around you that supported you through the process."

"It's real important for the Army because it showcases the Army's ability to support soldiers in what they do, and challenges me to be a better soldier," continued Sgt. Mortensen.

Sgt. Mortensen can be seen in the luge competition beginning Feb. 10, and we wish him the best of luck.
