(WTVM) - NASCAR season is just days away.

Chase Elliott hopes to have a monster year in the Monster Energy Series. He stopped by Atlanta Motor Speedway Monday and spoke with the media just days before the start of the season.

Elliott hopes for his first track victory in 2018. Seven times he's finished in second, but he's still ahead of his dad Bill Elliott before he got his first win.

"Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" had eight second-place finishes before his first win. Chase wouldn't mind one-upping his dad.

He received some good luck charms at Atlanta Motor Speedway Monday, but an offseason change may bring him even more positive vibes. Elliott will race the number 9 car instead of the 24. It's the same number as his dad, and the one he raced with growing up.

"I've always raced that number and I do have a lot of history with it myself," Chase said. "Anybody that has a favorite number, if you have the opportunity to be that number at the top level of your sport's pretty cool."

Chase finished fifth in last year's Monster Energy Cup standings and looks to take home the title this year.

It all starts with the Daytona 500 this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. EST/1:30 p.m. CST
