RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Russell County's coroner has announced his plans for reelection.
Arthur Sumbry Jr. is seeking his fourth term as coroner in the June 2018 primary election. Sumbry made history in 2006 when he became the first African American to hold the office.
"As coroner, I have worked hard to offer the citizens of Russell County strong, professional, compassionate leadership. I have the experience, passion, and desire to continue working in that capacity", said Sumbry.
Sumbry notes improvements made during his tenure as coroner include bringing all past administrative files current, installing measures to secure personal files to maintain the public's privacy and installing awning shelters.
He's not only touting his work as coroner but his involvement in the community. Sumbry is a frequent speaker at churches and schools to provide education on mortality rates and making wise choices to help prevent tragic consequences. He and his staff have also held Christmas parties to assist families in need during the holidays.
Alabama's primary is June 5.
