COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A local autism expert shares his personal and professional experience in a new book.
Dr. Michael Ellis is a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Bradley Center in Columbus. He authored "Caring for Autism," which was published by Oxford University Press this month.
Dr. Ellis says his daughter was diagnosed with autism 10 years ago and he felt compelled to share his story in the new book.
"Caring for Autism" is written from the perspective of a psychiatrist who specializes in autism and father of a child who has the disorder. It discusses the effects of autism on the whole family, not just the patient involved.
The book covers diagnosis, medications, treatments, lifestyle, guardianship, and more.
The book has already sold more than 1,500 copies within two weeks.
