PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Stroke awareness was the topic of a 'brunch and learn' in Phenix City Wednesday.
The event took place at the Central Activity Center and the theme was "Making the Right Choice." Walter Johnson, director of therapy services at the Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, was the speaker.
"We are actually known as the stroke belt capital and that's because we have such a frequency high number of people having a stroke in this area. We really want to be able to curve that down and we have had success. If you look back and see, the number of strokes is declining but the number is still high," says Johnson.
The Central Activity Center, Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, and Pat Harrell host Brunch and Learn each month on topics of interest to senior adults and their caregivers. There is no charge for the event.
Programs are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Central Activity Center.
