LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - An East Alabama district attorney wants to educate parents on internet safety.
Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes and his staff hosted 'Sex, Cell Phones, and Social Media Safety' Monday evening for parents with kids who spend time online. The event was held at Smiths Station Junior High School.
Social media apps not only attract cyber predators, but the misuse of them can lead to criminal charges for children.
"These apps aren't bad most of the time, but the secrecy about it that certainly invites the amenity about it invites sexual predators online and these kids have no idea who they are talking to until it's too late," says Hughes.
The District Attorney's Office says it will continue its ongoing effort in battling online predators and ensuring cyber safety.
