COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Women in the community gathered at the Salvation Army in Columbus Tuesday for a lunch and learn event.
The 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' Lunch and Learn, hosted by the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley, educated women on domestic violence. There were different activities to demonstrate what to do when you come across someone who is a victim of domestic violence and what to do if you are being abused.
"We're actually going to be doing an activity to learn what it's like to walk in someone's shoes who is experiencing domestic violence. That way we can see the impact that the agency has and the community and how we can get connected and give back, whether it's with our time, talent or money, to these agencies in town," says Wendi Jenkins, co-chair of the Women United Board.
Organizers say the topic of domestic violence should be discussed in everyday life.
