Millage rate changes as new property tax approved in Smiths Station

SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - Residents of Smiths Station will soon be paying more for on their property taxes as a five mill property tax has been approved by city officials.
This five mill property tax will add about $50 a year if you own a $100,000 home and $100 a year for a $200,000 home.
The city is estimating they will see more than $175,000 from the new tax that will go into improving the sewage for the city.
Plus adding on a building inspector for the city so they won't have to go through Opelika for inspections of homes in the process of being built.
