Columbus High School student passes away following accident on Moon Rd.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A teen has passed away following an accident on Moon Road that happened on April 20, 2018.

Jakayla Jackson, 17, died in the ICU at Piedmont Medical Center on Sunday, April 29 from massive head injuries.

Jackson was a student at Columbus High School.

The school released the following statement to parents and students:

We are very sad to report that we have lost a member of our CHS Family. Our beloved student, Jakayla Jackson, died on yesterday. The district's Crisis Response Team, which includes a team of School Counselors and School Social Workers, provided special counseling services to students and staff members today to address any need for support as they work through the grief process.

Following news of Jackson's passing, the school is coming together to honor her.

A flagpole memorial is set to be held outside the school Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., followed by a chalk party to decorate Jackson's parking space at 4:30 p.m. after school dismissal.
