COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Pay raises for city employees were at the top of the agenda for the first budget review for the 2019 fiscal year.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson answered questions about her budget plan during a city council meeting Tuesday. Tomlinson says her main focus for the city is healthcare.

"Today we had a pretty in-depth review of our healthcare system here in the city. It was great to see we've made a lot of progress since about 2013," says Tomlinson.

Tomlinson says growth is expected to continue under the proposed 2019 fiscal year budget. She says its good news for tax papers because they've been saving about $4 million and curved the rise of healthcare costs.

The final vote on the budget will be June 12.
