Relay for Life celebrates 25th anniversary in Muscogee County
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The American Cancer Society is raising awareness for patients, survivors, and their caregivers in Muscogee County Friday.
The 25th anniversary of Relay for Life kicked off with the survivors' lap followed by the caregivers' lap. There are several events going on throughout the evening with music included.
When nightfall hits, a luminaria ceremony takes place which gives the opportunity to pay tribute to those that have passed away from cancer.
"People's lives are important. People care about their loved ones. People worry about their loved ones and this gives everyone a sense of community for one night," says Cammy Currie, chair of the luminaria ceremony.
The event is not a run or race but a celebration of life and hope.
