COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Sunday is a special day for mom's as we take time to honor the important women in our lives. Saturday, mothers and sons in the Chattahoochee Valley are getting a chance to start the celebrations early with a mother-son dance at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.
"The night is basically a night of bonding for mothers and sons. Creating memories and of course, Mother's Day is tomorrow so what better way to spend mother's day weekend than with your son," says organizer Kirsten King.
Mothers and their sons from all Columbus came together for a special bonding moment. Children like Khamari Thomas says his mom deserves the recognition.
"Without her, I don't know what I would do. Honestly, she makes me happy, like and yeah I'm going to say I'm spoiled."
He's not the only one. Ezra says he's glad he's able to share this special moment with his mother and wouldn't trade her for the world.
"She means the world to me. And I wouldn't risk anything for the hugs and kisses she gives me."
More than 400 people were on the list for today's turnout. Many of the moms in attendance say it's the little things like this that makes the moment worth it.
"Anytime I can spend with my baby I like that. I like to bond with my son. I have a daughter too but that bond is always different," says Jessica Thomas.
"It's so special, just because they grow up fast. So you bring them home from the hospital when you think you have all this time with them. You look up, and they graduate from college," explained Jasmine.
Organizers say the theme for this event is the 90s with the title a Fresh Prince and Queen. They say this is the sixth annual event.
"We as mothers have that wall up where we're so superior and authoritative, but this list the kids know that mom is cool. I can talk to her and we can have fun. Just basically creating harmony in the family," says King.
