COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A Columbus teenager is getting ready to answer to some serious charges in front of a judge.

Officers with the Columbus Police Department's Special Victims Unit arrested 17-year-old Markel Ervin Tuesday on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges.

It is unclear as of now what happened to prompt the kidnapping charge, or who else was involved in the crime, but those details are expected to be relayed this morning in court.

If you are convicted of kidnapping in the state of Georgia, you could spend anywhere from ten to twenty years in prison depending on the extent of the case.

Since Ervin is still a minor, he could face a lighter sentence if convicted.

He will also submit a plea of "guilty" or "not guilty" during his first court appearance, which is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.

Ervin currently sits in the Muscogee County Jail.
