COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Memorial Day is a time to remember the fallen soldiers who served in the country's armed forces.
Though the National Infantry Museum is closed on Mondays they will be open Monday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to commemorate Memorial Day. The weekend of events will kick off Saturday, May 26 followed by the second event Monday, May 28.
Here is a list of events happening at the museum:
Rendezvous with History: For this event, historians will give the visitors a taste of the life soldiers had during the war. There is no charge for this activity, however, donations are accepted. It will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.
Memorial Day Mini Camp: Kids aged 5-11 learn about military history and appreciation through games, hands-on activities, guided tours, refreshments and more. For this event, you will need to register by contacting the Camp Director at firstname.lastname@example.org or 706-653-9234, ext 5849.
Paver Dedication Ceremony: The paver dedication ceremony will start at 10 a.m. and will feature guest speaker BG David Lesperance, Armor School Commandant at the Maneuver Center of Excellence, as well as brief remarks by U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop.
Flag Retirement Ceremony: Local Scouts will conduct an official flag retirement ceremony at 11:30 p.m.
WWII Company Street: The authentically restored World War II Company Street will be open for self- guided tours between noon and 3 p.m.
