Preparing for Subtropical Storm Alberto before weather threats arrive

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - As we prepare for Subtropical Strom Alberto there are a few things that could help before any weather-related threats arrive.

With the weather conditions, it could also hinder a few travel arrangements depending on where you're headed.

The Alabama Department of Insurance recommends a list of things that can help you during the storm a few are listed below.

  • It is important that you have an evacuation plan.
  • Create an emergency kit which includes water, food, a weather radio, charged cell phones, and medications.
  • Make sure you clear your yard of any debris that could cause damage in winds or floods.
  • Get acquainted with your insurance policy to determine if you have flood insurance.

For those who are looking to travel, the Atlanta- based Delta Airlines is warning customers that they are expecting to cancel flights ahead of the storm. Delta advises passengers to check their flight status as soon as possible. The airline has canceled six flights between Atlanta and Key West, Florida on May 27.

Delta will be waiving certain change fees for customers with flights booked through Destin, Panama City, Mobile, Key West, Pensacola, or Tallahassee today, May 28.
