(WTVM) - Ever had your hands so full that you wished you had a third arm?

Well, guess what, such a device may be on the way for U.S. soldiers.

It is called Third Arm, the brainstorm of engineers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory.

"Third Arm helps take the weight of the weapon off of the soldier's arms," says developer Dan Baechle. "Right now, it's a prototype-type device and it's a fairly early-stage prototype-device."

Baechle points out that Third Arm does not need batteries, is lightweight and can evenly distribute the load of a heavy weapon.

It is being tested at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
