COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Today was one of several firearm courses held throughout the year by the Muscogee County Marshall's Office. Civilians came in and learned safety, how to clean their guns, and laws about guns.

The purpose of the class is to help people interact and get comfortable with their guns. After a week in the classroom learning safety and gun laws, the class will move on to the firing range for a more hands-on experience.

Deputy Marshall, Anthony Shane Humphries says, "we really want the public to be as knowledgeable as they can be when it comes to firearms whether it be the state laws, the safety, how the guns work, when they will or will not go off or when they can or cannot use them." He really likes them having that option of education.

There are a few requirements for the class that are important to note. To participate in the class you must be 21 years or older, a criminal background check will be done, must bring a firearm, holster and 100 rounds of ammunition, protective eyewear and ear protection, along with a baseball cap and weather appropriate clothing. The price for all classes is $42.
