Former Auburn athletic director lands new position at Florida

(WTVM) - Former Auburn Athletic Director Jay Jacobs has landed a new position at the University of Florida.

Jacobs is joining Florida's athletic department as the Executive Associate Athletic Director. The announcement of his new role was made Tuesday.

Jacobs spent over 30 years in Auburn's athletic department and the last 13 years as athletic director. According to Florida Gators, he will replace Charlotte Athletic Director Mike Hill who left Florida for his new position in March.

As Florida's athletic director, Jacobs will oversee the communications, marketing, ticketing, and GatorVision departments.

Florida Gators notes that Jacobs presided over $220 million in facility improvements, oversaw the hiring of nutritionists and mental health professionals.

He was also named a 2016-2017 NACDA Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year based on his efforts, commitment, and positive contributions to student-athletes, campuses, and their surrounding activities.

Officials with Florida say the athletics department is fortunate to someone of Jacobs' caliber to join the Gators.
