Several Phenix City roads shut down permanently and temporarily
Several Phenix City roads, including Brickyard Rd., are currently closed.

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - If your commute takes you through Phenix City there are two road closures, and one of them is permanent.

As of Tuesday, June 19, 5th Ave. between 17th St. and South Railroad St. is permanently closed.

News Leader 9 has reached out to the Phenix City Engineering Department to determine the cause of the closure.

Officials there say they are not able to comment on the reason for the road closure. News Leader 9 has since left a message with the Engineering Department manager's office and are awaiting a response.

Also, as of Monday, June 18, another closure in Phenix City began.

Due to emergency construction, a portion of Brickyard Rd. between State Dock Rd. and Fontaine Rd. will be closed.

This closure will remain until completion of construction, but there is no word yet on when that will be.

Drivers should expect traffic delays throughout the duration of the project.

The Phenix City Engineering Department suggests planning your morning commute to give yourself more travel time.
