COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - While the Columbus Government Center remains closed following a water main break, some departments are getting creative on ways to continue work.

Along 12th Street, fans, tents, and trailers fill one of the  Government Center's parking lots.

The Muscogee County Sheriff Office is temporarily housing a 'mobile command unit' on the premises.

"We don't know at this point how long this is going to take to fix and clean up, so we have a mobile command set up across the street to direct services at the Government Center," said Sheriff Donna Tompkins during a press conference.

Immediately after shutting down the Government Center, officials within the sheriff's office took prompt action, relocating to a mobile command unit across the street in the Government Center parking lot.

All dispatch services and patrols are currently housed in the unit.

"We do not have anyone on the floor running a dispatch. We are running from the command center. We do not have the ability to open and close doors because we are not in the office," said Tompkins.

This temporary fix is only expected to be needed throughout the weekend.

The sheriff's office, located on the fourth floor, will re-open along with seven other levels Monday, June 25.

"Hopefully we'll be back in service Monday," said Tompkins.
