TAYLOR COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - The Taylor County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of a phone scam.

The sheriff's office has received complaints of a person claiming to be a  representative of Georgia Power. The person tells residents that Georgia Power is going to cut their power off and they must call an "800" number to make a payment.

When the phone number is called, banking information is requested in order to keep power from being discontinued.

The sheriff's office is advising residents to not give personal or banking information to persons you do not know or trust.
