More than 35K come out for Fort Benning centennial celebration

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM)- More than 35,000 people across the Chattahoochee Valley came to Fort Benning for a special celebration.

Even WTVM's very own Barbara Gauthier, Roslyn Giles, Parker Branton and Sharifa Jackson were in attendance. Everyone says it's hard to contain their excitement.

"Excited for the floats, the prizes and the fireworks and the music!" It's all for the 100th Celebration for Fort Benning.

Along with the major fireworks show, the highlights of the celebration being an aerial demonstration, musical performances by Big and Rich, Flo Rida and 3 Doors Down as well as a car giveaway.

A Kia Soul went to an active duty service member or family member of an active member. Those in attendance say the celebration is hard to beat.

"Every year I come It's bigger than last year. It's the biggest in the southeast. People brag on it, and I've never seen it outdone," says attendee Caleb Williams.

The firework show lasted more than 30 minutes and everyone saying it was a centennial to remember. Fort Benning officials say it was the largest fireworks show they've ever had on base.
