COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - There are two less options for beating the heat in the city of Columbus this summer.

Columbus Parks and Recreation closed two community pools for the Summer 2018 season.

The Psalmond Road pool along with Shirley B. Winston Park pool closed and are reportedly in need of extensive repair work.

Matt Lensch, aquatics program director for Columbus Parks and Recreation, says the future of the two pools is uncertain.

"Usually after we've gotten all hot, we'd like to go to the pool and cool off. Even though we have a pool at home, the kids used to like to use the slides. It has a nice shallow end with sprinklers and stuff. They are kind of bummed that it is closed," said Jeremy Edwards, a frequent visitor of the Psalmond Road Pool location.

The decision to close the Psalmond Road Park pool was made earlier this year at a Columbus City Council Meeting, but the closure is still catching some visitors off guard.

"This one was a lot closer to our house than going to Double Churches. It is not as convenient from our house as this one {Psalmond Road}," said Edwards.

The pools were approved for repair funding, but if they actually will be fixed is reportedly still undecided. A decision is expected following this summer season.

In the meantime, pool alternatives and incentives are being offered to families by Parks and Recreation for summer 2018.

A 'Fun Pass" is being offered. The pass includes free ice skating, free admission to Double Churches pool, and a free bus transportation to the Columbus Aquatic Center, among other things.

The pass can be picked up at any recreation center, METRA, Columbus Ice Rink, Columbus Aquatic Center, or the Columbus Parks & Recreation Main Office.
