LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Animal control was a major topic at the Monday night's Lee County Commission meeting.
A group of concerned citizens and professionals offered ways of improving adoption rates and the return to owner rate from animal control. Many want to give the public a central location, whether it be a phone number or website, to contact in order to locate or return a lost animal to reduce euthanasia.
With such a system in place, they think the number of pets being euthanized can be reduced.
"There's room for improvement for the numbers we've put forward from Lee County Animal Control. There are some simple solutions such as posting pictures of animals online so that potential adopters or families who have lost pets can have easier access to finding their lost animals or a new family member," said Veterinarian Elizabeth York.
There were also talks about getting a task force with a group of animal control veterinarians and some members of the public.
