(WTVM) - Positive employment numbers were reported in the River Valley area in the month of May.
Muscogee, Harris, Chattahoochee, Quitman, Randolph, and Talbot counties are included in the 16-county area which saw a drop in the unemployment rate and increases in labor force and the number of employed residents.
The number of employed residents grew to 143,475 which represents an increase of 1,043 for the month and an increase of 3,521 for the year. The unemployment rate in the region fell 0.2 percent to 4.5 percent, down 5.8 percent a year ago.
"Georgia's economy remains very strong," said Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler." Across the board, the state's numbers are very positive for the year and many areas continue to set records."
Employ Georgia, the Georgia Department of Labor's (GDOL) online job listing service showed 2,415 active job openings in the River Valley region for May.
