TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM) – The Troup County Sheriff's office arrested a man for home invasion.

On July 1 at 4:36 p.m. deputies were called to the 1900 block of Youngs Mill Road regarding a possible home invasion.

Before arriving at the home officers were told that a man wearing white shorts, a hat, and no shirt had entered the complainant's home on Youngs Mill Road and left the location after being seen and yelled at by the homeowner.

When responding officers arrived at the scene they came in contact with 37-year-old Leslie Smith walking near the residence and he was detained for questioning. While speaking with Smith, deputies were notified that LaGrange officers had located a second person nearby who was sitting in the car near the intersection of Youngs Mill Rd and Old Youngs Mill Rd.

This person identified as Cody Lane Pruitt, 28, stated that he and Leslie came to the area to fish early Sunday morning and had smoked marijuana. A search of Pruitt's vehicle revealed a bait container that contained a small amount of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Also found in the vehicle was a prescription pill container that contained a small amount of burned green leafy substance also believed to be marijuana.

During the investigation, it was determined the Smith did, in fact, enter the residence by forcing a door open. Smith is charged with burglary and Pruitt is charged with possession of marijuana.
