1st.VALLEY AL, (WTVM) - A Valley woman has been arrested for attempted extortion.
Valley Police Department arrested 62-year-old Dorothy Sledge on Thursday on five counts of attempted extortion in connection to an alleged homicide.
Police began an investigation in mid-May when the victim reported that they had received a letter demanding money in exchange for not releasing information to law enforcement authorities concerning the victim's alleged involvement in a homicide.
Police say four more letters were sent during the month of June and early July.
There was a named "drop" location listed in each of the letters. This location was placed under surveillance and response letters were left by Law Enforcement at the location after each letter demanding money was received.
Sledge was transported to the Chambers County Detention Facility where she is being held awaiting bond.
