LaGrange participates in 3rd Annual West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race

LAGRANGE, GA (WTVM) - The City of LaGrange plans to participate in the 3rd Annual West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race this Saturday, July 14 at Pyne Road Park.

The West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race benefits Harmony House Domestic Violence Shelter in LaGrange. Harmony House provides emergency shelter, security, crisis-intervention, education and advocacy for adults and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The city's team, Lou's Cre, won first place in the 2016 Dragon Boat Race and came in fourth place and within one-tenth of a second of first place in last year's competition.

"This event is an incredible way to not only raise money for a wonderful cause but also to bring the community together to have fun and showcase the beautiful West Point Lake," said former Harmony House Board President Ginger Zachry.

A dragon boat race consists of a drummer and 20 paddlers in a 46-foot-long dragon boat competing against another boat. There are 30 teams participating in the event.

The event will begin at 8:15 a.m. and is free and open to the public. There will be 12 food trucks and vendors available at the event.
