COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The restaurant community in Columbus has spent this week coming together to rally around one of their own as he recovers from a life-threatening injury.
Mark Jones was severely injured in a car accident May 20. The impact left him quadriplegic and on a path to rehabilitation.
On Friday night, an event was held at B. Merrill's restaurant in support of Jones.
"As Soon as we heard about it we knew that it was a real serious situation. We wanted to do something for Mark. We didn't know exactly what we wanted to do and then Stephanie came along with the idea with all of the restaurants doing something," said Berry Merrill, owner and president of B. Merrill's.
"As soon as we put the banner up in the restaurant, people started saying 'I want shirts, I want to donate.' The fact that we're doing these three days giving our proceeds to that cause is great, but I've been overwhelmed with people that wanted shirts and wanted to just donate," Merrill added.
Some of the proceeds from Jones' restaurants will be going towards his recovery efforts and each restaurant is selling shirts which are $15. Donations are also being accepted until Sunday.
There is a Facebook page with updates on Jones' recovery efforts called, "Grubbin To Give Mark Jones Fundraiser Week."
