Bicyclist rescues stray dog hit by a car in GA

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Meet Columbo – a stray dog who was hit by a car and now has a forever home.

On July 10, Jarrett Little was biking near Oxbow when a five-month-old Great Dane mixed puppy ran up to him hungry and thirsty. Little gave him water and an entire pack of energy chews.

"He actually wasn't mine as we found him while riding and could tell he needed help. He'd been hit by a car days before and needed some surgery," Little said.

Little ended up riding him into town hoping to find some help. He eventually came across a nice lady, Andrea Shaw, right after going downtown.

"She took him in and to the vet and paid his medical bills and everything he needed pins in his hip and some other things," he said.

Shaw was only in Columbus for a business trip and she returned home with Columbo last week.

"She named him Columbo because he came into her life in Columbus."

Since Shaw took him in she provided an update on Facebook following his surgery:

"UPDATE: Bo came thru surgery well and is awake and waiting for my visit. Four pins in the femur. Front toe is splinted. Looking at crate rest and out to potty only for eight weeks. Will most likely develop arthritis in this knee - but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
