Piedmont Columbus Regional fights diabetes with prevention program

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Piedmont Columbus Regional wants to help stop the spread of diabetes in the Chattahoochee Valley and beyond, so they are hosting a prevention program.

According to Amerigroup, Muscogee County has a diabetes death rate of 53.6%, as compared to 23.1% across the state of Georgia.

The Diabetes Prevention Program features interactive lessons, cooking demonstrations and lots of fun.

The program, developed by the Centers for Diabetes Control, focuses on practicing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Those in attendance will also have the chance to win a Fit Bit Blaze, an iPad and gift cards.

The program will be held July 18 from 12:00 p.m. in the Piedmont Columbus Regional Conference Center.
