COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - An annual fundraiser for the Springer Theatre Academy was held at the Springer Opera House Thursday night.
Teachers put together a showcase to show off their performance skills that they have been teaching all summer to raise money.
The Teacheret fundraiser was started by a former academy teacher and is also in honor Ron Anderson, a former director of the theatre academy who passed away in 2016.
"We want the academy to be accessible to anybody. It's our belief that if you want to be here, we want to bring you here. Donations and scholarships are the only ways we really can make sure that happens. Last year, Teacheret raised about $6,000 and this year I'm hoping for $7,000," said Austin Sargent, a teacher at the Springer Theatre Academy.
This year marks the fourth year Teacheret has taken place.
Donations are being accepted online at the Springer's website.
