(WTVM) - Alabama's tax-free weekend is back.
All Chattahoochee Valley, East Alabama areas including Russell, Lee, Barbour and Chambers counties are getting in on the tax-free deals. Residents in Lee County say the tax-free weekend is the best time to go back-to-school shopping.
"That's the whole reason we are here," says Shelley Cooper, a mom of two kids.
Cooper says she lives in Columbus but decided to make the drive to Phenix City to take advantage of tax-free back-to-school deals in Alabama this weekend.
School supplies get pricey, according to parents, which means tax-free goods add up.
The Alabama Department of Revenue lists items such as binders, pens, pencils and book bags, which you can buy free of state sales tax from July 20through 22. But keep in mind, local sales tax still may apply.
"Every little bit helps," says Cooper.
Even certain clothing items are tax free this weekend, including shoes and diapers. You can expect stores across the state of Alabama to be full of customers for the next three days.
