Opelika man arrested on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping in Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - An Opelika man is sitting in the Lee County Jail after being arrested for attempted murder and kidnapping in Auburn.

36-year-old Charles Waltman was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, second-degree kidnapping and domestic violence by strangulation.

Opelika police responded to a restaurant in the 900 block of Fox Run Pkwy. in reference to a reported kidnapping at 4:00 a.m. July 25.

The victim stated that Waltman was an acquaintance of hers and came to her Auburn home and drove her at knifepoint to the Opelika restaurant where police were called.

An investigation by Auburn police determined the assault occurred at the victim's Auburn residence, Waltman made threats to kill her and forced her to leave with him.

The victim was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center where she was treated and later released.

Waltman was transported to the Lee County Jail where he currently sits on a $125,000 bond.
