COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - As students prepare to go back to school, parents are being encouraged to take their kids to get their shots before heading back.
To help, the Columbus Health Department is offering a special clinic for immunizations.
Walk-ins are welcome from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Health officials say these shots are very important.
Valerie Scruggs-Proitt a registered nurse says the importance of the shot is to protect not only your children but to protect yourself and the community as a whole.
"The immunizations help prevent diseases that are just about eradicated in this country as well as around the world and we would like to keep it that way," says Proitt.
The Health Department recommends parents take full advantage of this clinic before school starts next week.
