COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley is celebrating the end to their summer-long school supply drive.

Their 'Stuff the Bus' campaign collected 5,700 supplies, including backpacks.

Over the course of two weeks, volunteers and people from local businesses sorted supplies and filled the backpacks.

"And these supplies are for Kindergarten through 2nd and they give children in the Title-1 schools, which are the most needy schools, make sure they have what they need to start that first day of school and have a good experience," says Scott Ferguson, President and CEO of United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley.

Backpacks were delivered to nine schools in Phenix City and Russell County July 31.

On Aug. 1, backpacks will be delivered to 25 schools in Muscogee County and one in Harris County.
