COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Horse and Carriages may come to the downtown historic Columbus areas.

Majestic Carriage Service first went before city council members back in November of 2017 to try and bring Horse and Carriages to Uptown Columbus.

It was brought up again in May of 2018 where a slideshow was presented explaining the routes and rules for the horses on Broadway if approved.

There are a lot of mixed feelings when it comes to bringing horses to Columbus.

Some people say there is already too much traffic on Broadway and it would cause too many accidents and others like the idea.

"I love it, I think it adds charm and character," said Kelly Heintz.

"Knowing how Broadway already is during market time and events and it's so congested and there's already so much foot traffic. I don't know if our area is necessarily suited for it," said Terra Martinez.

"I think it might be a good idea. Downtown Columbus has improved so much. I mean it's absolutely beautiful and when you come out on the weekends I think it would be a great added attraction," said Ronnie Bridges

As it stands now the idea is just a proposal. It is expected to be brought before council soon for consideration.

We will continue to follow this proposal as council members discuss the details and decide whether we could see them soon.
