Columbus Police recover a body from the Chattahoochee River

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus Police received a call about a body floating in the river near the 14th Street bridge around noon.

Deputy Coroner Charles Newton was called to the scene to investigate.

He says, "Around noon a jogger saw what appeared to be a body floating near the Dillingham Street bridge"

According to Deputy Coroner Charles Newton, it looks like the body had been in the river for at least a day

A male body has been recovered from the river but no identification of the body has been given. There were injuries to the back of the head but it is not certain what might have caused those injuries.

The body will be sent to Atlanta for an autopsy and the police will continue their investigation.
