The Water Environment Federation recognized CWW as a Utility of the Future Today 2018 for Watershed Stewardship.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Water Works (CWW) is being honored for its innovation and for building on a foundation of excellent management.

The Water Environment Federation recognized CWW as a Utility of the Future Today 2018 for Watershed Stewardship. In addition to recognizing utility companies, the program also seeks to help utilities transform their operations over time.

According to CWW, it is dedicated to meeting the increasing challenges of sustainability, innovative technology, and green energy while protecting the environment and preserving water.

The company developed the Watershed Stewardship and Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP), in partnership between the United States and several other agencies and water purveyors to stay in the forefront of rules and regulations that affect its operations.

CWW is one of 32 water utilities from across the United States recognized for its forward thinking, and innovative utilities.

The Utility of the Future Today program was launched in 2016 and its concept is being promoted as the nation's water system faces challenges such as aging infrastructure, water pollution, workforce shortages, and more.

CWW will be recognized in October during an awards ceremony in New Orleans.
